“Little Al” is a seasoned guide at Three Forks Ranch. Originally from Montrose, Colorado, Al holds the Brown Trout record at 30 lbs., 8 oz. He has been fishing since he was five and has instilled his own love of the outdoors in his three children. In the Fall, you’ll find him leading our hunting guests into the woods, in search of deer, elk and pronghorn.
Arne has lived in Steamboat Springs, Colorado since 1978 where he is an avid backcountry skier, angler and climber. His first memory of fishing is catching a 7lb Walleye through the ice at age five and from that point on he was literally hooked! Arne graduated from the University of Oregon where he was a national All-American skier. Among his many accomplishments: having completed over 30 “ultra-marathons,” four of which were over 100 miles, sea kayaking 1300 miles from Vancouver to Sitka, Alaska over a three month period, and getting his pilot’s license.
Brett has been guiding fly fishing for more than two decades, and currently resides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He is one of the most respected guides in the area and serves as an excellent casting instructor, fly tier and one of the most knowledgeable fishermen in the business. When not on the water guiding guests, Brett can be found running Straightline Sports, the region’s oldest, continually operated guide service and fly shop.
Brian has been fly fishing since the age of three. Raised in Maine and Vermont, he literally grew up on the Battenkill and has traveled the world perfecting his trade. Brian has been guiding professionally since the age of thirteen. His favorite fishing partner has always been his dad, and the two have literally helped shape the course of fly fishing as a sport. Brian trades his fishing gear for camouflage in the Fall to serve as one of our most skilled hunting guides. In the Spring, he can be found sugaring in Vermont and spending time with his family in Maine at their hunting camp. He married Jess Phillip in May 2013 at the Ranch.
Bryan is currently a resident of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He began fly fishing with his grandfather at the age of twelve in Rocky Mountain National Park. Bryan has fished in the Yampa Valley for the past ten years. When he is not guiding at the Ranch, he can be found guiding clients in Steamboat or enjoying the outdoors with his wife and two children.
Chuck has been a resident of Northwest Colorado for decades. He began fly fishing more than forty years ago in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, which means he knows his way around this part of the country. He has been guiding for more than ten years in Colorado, Utah and Mexico’s Baja Pennensula. Chuck’s fervor for fishing makes him an outstanding teacher of the sport.
Originally from Tennessee, Dave’s passion for the great outdoors led him west to Colorado. Dave is truly a student of the fly fishing game. During the summer, his vast knowledge of trout, insects, water, equipment and technique make him an excellent teacher and coach. In the Fall, he guides hunts and takes advantage of as many outdoor activities as possible. After four years together, Dave and Lodge Manager Jenn are now officially hitched!
Gary has been a fly fishing guide at Three Forks Ranch for years, but has been fishing in the Yampa Valley since he moved to Steamboat Springs more than twenty years ago. When he’s away from water, which isn’t often, Gary coaches the winter biathlon team for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. When he’s not at the Ranch, Gary loves to spend time with his family camping, hiking and skiing.
Jeremiah (“J-Waugh”) grew up in the Black Hills of northeast Wyoming on his family’s ranch. A passionate outdoorsman, Jeremiah guides not only our fishing guests during the Summer but also our hunting guests in the Fall. His easy going nature makes Jeremiah an easy companion for guests exploring the Ranch.
A graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in Psychology, Jess is a Colorado native who loves cross country and downhill skiing. She has been a ski guide at Three Forks Ranch since we began our winter program. She also happens to be one of our best CAT drivers. Jess loves to fly fish on the Little Snake River and she is fortunate to have an awesome tutor in her new husband Brian Lepage, whom she married in May 2013, right here at Three Forks Ranch!
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Jimmy has been guiding professionally for more than thirty years. Jimmy is also a Coast Guard 100-ton captain, which means he is certified to captain up to a 100-ton vessel in any waters, even international. Jimmy’s favorite fishing spot is actually located in the country of Chile.
Born and raised in Northwest Colorado, Larry is a keen outdoorsman with experience hiking and fishing in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. In addition to decades of guiding experience, his passionate pursuit to fly fish both fresh and saltwater species has taken him north to Canada and Alaska; south to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas; and farther south to Mexico and Central and South America. Larry resides in Craig, Colorado, during the Summer and Fall, but he escapes to South Texas in the Winter.
Ryan is a Colorado Native and has lived in Routt County since 1997. When he isn’t fishing, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids. Ryan’s patience and love for the sport make him a great guide.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Tyler grew up fishing for trout on the Chattahoochee River and in Appalachian streams. After picking up a fly rod at the age of eight, fly fishing became a passion. Tyler moved to Steamboat Springs, CO in 2010 and began guiding there before he joined Three Forks Ranch in 2011. In his free time you will always find Tyler outdoors, doing everything from hiking to mountain biking and skiing in the winter. Whenever he can, Tyler heads south to Mexico, in search of the elusive bone fish, permit and tarpon!
